When children continue to struggle with reading and learning despite all best efforts to help them, it can be very difficult to figure out what is needed.  Is it a learning disability? Attention disorder? Or is it a vision problem?  As a parent, how can you tell the difference?

research has suggested that a binocular approach may offer better outcomes for amblyopia treatment. The binocular approach aims to encourage both eyes to work together, stimulating the connections between the brain and the eyes and promoting better visual development.

2023 is a new year. As you make goals and resolutions for the new year I implore you to add “trying something new.” If your child is beginning to struggle or if this has been yet another year or semester of struggling, constant homework battles, depleted self-esteem and either no academic gain or falling further behind then you should have them evaluated by a developmental optometrist who will test for all the visual skills required for reading, learning and academic achievement.

The Vision Therapy Evaluation goes several steps beyond here. Once figuring out possible need for optical prescriptions and knowing the eyes are healthy, the Vision Therapy Evaluation must determine how well the eyes work together and how well the two eyes work together with the brain.
